Ted Kitayama Inducted to the ETJCC Wall of Honor
Over 50 years, that’s the duration of dedicated service and leadership, Ted Kitayama has provided to the Eden Township JACL and the Eden Township Japanese Community Center (ETJCC). Ted joined the Eden JACL Board in 1965, held various positions as Treasurer and Vice President. In 1971 and 1972, Ted served as President of the JACL & further served as our Eden JACL Treasurer for 38 years from 1978 to 2016. He also provided us with all the electrical work for the Eden Bazaar for decades and ensured the Bazaar finances – along with the ETJCC treasurer – ran smoothly.
Most notable about Ted’s service is years ago, he decided that we must work toward keeping the ETJCC running for future generations. He, therefore, spearheaded a campaign for an ETJCC emergency fund by offering and funding on his own, matching donations. The ETJCC has used that fund to replace the back fences, install the front gate and fence, repair the roof, plus other needed upkeep.
On a personal note, Ted’s dry sense of humor has always made the Eden JACL Board meetings more enjoyable.
It’s for his years of continued and dedicated service, his leadership and his extra effort in providing the ETJCC with an Emergency fund, that we honor his memory on the ETJCC Wall of Honor.
