High School Scholarship 2023
There are SEVERAL scholarships available from the local Eden Township JACL/Japanese Community Center. We encourage all Eden Township JACL & Eden Township Japanese Community Center Seniors to apply. The Eden Township Japanese Community Centers include all organizations of the Center (Eden Athletic Club, Eden Aoba Taiko, etc.)
Note: Although the application states “JACL” the online form is also being used for the Eden Japanese Community Center scholarships too.

All applications must be submitted online to the National JACL website -- transcripts, headshot photo, and recommendation letter included. (JACL will accept e-transcripts or PDF/JPG/PNG copies of transcripts and letters of recommendation.) Because the applications are online, you must complete them in one sitting; they will NOT save if you exit or reload the window. Note the required Personal Statement essay prompt changes each year, so students must use the 2023 application for consideration by the National Scholarship Committees.
Each application packet should include:
(1) One COMPLETE application sent via the website which includes the personal statement. *
(2) One official transcript*
(3) One SIGNED letter of recommendation. *
(4) One headshot photo of the applicant
*Failure to include any of the above items or meet the deadline will disqualify the application.
Other requirements for the local Eden Township JACL/Eden Japanese Community Center scholarships:
· One must be enrolled in college in the Fall of 2023 in order to receive a scholarship.
· Local Applicants must be either 1) a member of the JACL – youth membership or family, or 2) any of the Eden Japanese Community Center groups (which includes the EAC) for a minimum of 2 years, past or present. (Parental membership does not fulfill requirements for #2.)
· Deadline: Online applications must be received no later than March 6, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. Hawaiian Standard Time (HST)
National JACL Scholarship:
If you would like to apply to both the highly valued National JACL scholarship AND the local Eden JACL/Community Center scholarships, you must join the JACL with a Youth membership before submitting your application. The membership is a National Scholarship requirement. The national scholarship is very competitive. The Eden Scholarship Committee will only forward the outstanding applications to the National JACL Scholarship committee."
The same online form submitted for the local scholarship will be applicable for the National JACL scholarship.

Important Note: If you ONLY intend to apply for a local Eden Township JACL or Eden Japanese Community Center Scholarship, please type “Eden Township only” in the JACL membership field.
Local Applicants are judged on the basis of their Eden Township JACL/Eden Community Center involvement, scholastic achievement, extra-curricular activities, community involvement, personal statement and SIGNED letter of recommendation. More weight will apply to the Eden Township JACL/Eden Community Center involvement.
National JACL Applicants are judged on the basis of their JACL involvement (EYG is a JACL organization), scholastic achievement, extra-curricular activities, community involvement, personal statement, and letter of recommendation.
